China's film industry is hoping to raise its creative standards and enhance production capabilities by working closely with leading global studios.
Disney animation "Zootopia 2" had raced past 2 billion yuan (about 280 million U.S. dollars) in China by the evening of Monday, its sixth day in theaters. So far, the film's box office in China is leading its global revenue.
Prior to release on Nov 26, Shanghai Animation Film Studio, one of China's most prestigious animation studios, and Disney China collaborated to promote the sequel, posting a series of special shorts created by four Chinese animation directors, using creative animation styles and tapping into traditional Chinese art techniques.
The collaboration, which drew positive feedback from Chinese viewers, also reflects the growing recognition the global film community attaches to China's movie industry, according to industry analysts.
"Major global film studios are closely watching China's film market, and we possess the capability, confidence, and willingness to engage in deep collaboration with leading Hollywood studios, including Disney, to further elevate the creative standards of our domestic films and strengthen the foundation and overall capacity of our film industry," said Zhang Jinfeng, deputy editor-in-chief of China Film News.
