Industry insiders said the natural uranium market holds enormous potential and a highly promising future due to the extremely uneven geographical distribution of global uranium resources.
The China National Uranium Co., Ltd., a core enterprise for natural uranium mining within the country's nuclear fuel supply chain, was listed on the main board of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on Wednesday, becoming the first natural uranium stock on the bourse, and marking a step forward in the guarantee capability of uranium resources in China.
The world's proven uranium resources are mainly concentrated in countries such as Australia, Kazakhstan, and Canada, and the combined reserves of the top three resource countries account for more than 50 percent of the global total, according to industrial insiders.
"Countries like Australia, Canada, Kazakhstan, Russia, Namibia, and Niger have relatively abundant uranium resources, but nuclear energy development is concentrated in countries like the United States, China, and France, where demand and supply are spatially uneven," said Yuan Xu, chairman of the China National Uranium Co., Ltd.
In July this year, the Guoyou No.1 demonstration project, China's largest natural uranium production capacity project, produced its first batch of uranium in Ordos City of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The highly concentrated distribution of natural uranium is one of the core factors influencing the global uranium market supply and demand balance, price trends, and energy security strategies of various countries.
At present, China has the world's largest nuclear power capacity, and it is estimated that in the next 15 years, domestic demand for natural uranium is expected to triple.
"According to the World Nuclear Association, global demand for natural uranium is projected to rise to as high as 204,600 tons (tU) by 2040.. The natural uranium market has enormous potential and a very promising future," said Yuan.
