China's 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and 9th National Special Olympic Games opened on Monday, jointly hosted by south China's Guangdong Province and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao.
Running from Dec. 8 to 15, this year's Games gather a total of 7,218 athletes, an increase of 2,734 from the previous edition.
Competitions are being held across nine cities in Guangdong and the two special administrative regions, with a total of 46 events and the support of 15,000 volunteers. Guangdong will host 34 main events, while Hong Kong will host four and Macao will host two.
Meanwhile, six winter sports competitions will be held in other provinces and cities.
This year's Games will feature a total of 41 competition venues, including 36 in Guangdong, three in Hong Kong, and two in Macao. A total of 21 venues in Guangdong were used to serve the 15th National Games, which concluded on Nov 21.
