An Alpine resort at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains in northwest China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region has welcomed flocks of skiers from across China since it opened for the 2025-2026 snow season at the last weekend.

Sitting at 1,200 meters above sea level, the ski resort in Fukang City of Xinjiang's Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture is located beneath China's 5A-rated Tianshan Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) Scenic Area, making it one of the best regions in the country for winter tourism.

The resort offers seven groomed runs respectively for beginners, intermediate and expert skiers. It also gains popularity among visitors for its mild winter temperatures and proximity to various other scenic spots.

"Skiing here is incredibly exciting, and the scenery is also beautiful. The temperature is quite comfortable, not very cold," said Zheng Lijian, a skier.

To provide tourists with more colorful activities during the snow season, the local government has introduced a new tourism model combining snow and winter sports with other activities like hot-pot banquets, ethnic dance performances and intangible cultural heritage experience.

"It's really a maximized experience to have hot pot while enjoying performances in the snow, and filming the awesome scenery of the Tianchi Lake," said Yang Changqing, a tourist from northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

"In addition to having free ski lessons, I also experienced snow archery, ball juggling, watched intangible cultural heritage displays, and saw a cultural and creative product exhibition, which are quite unique," said Zhu Jiahua, a tourist from east China's Shandong Province.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Monday officially launched the operations of its regional center in Shanghai, China, headed by Johannes Wiegand, an IMF economist, as the director.

As one of the regional centers set up by the IMF worldwide, the IMF Shanghai Center is expected to enhance the IMF's engagement with the Asia-Pacific region, according to a statement from the IMF.

The center will serve as a hub to promote research and knowledge sharing that can inform policies in areas of relevance for emerging market and middle-income countries, said the statement.

It also aims at deepening dialogue and outreach with member countries, regional institutions, and other stakeholders in the region, according to the statement.
