Thailand's Defense Ministry said on Friday that the latest border clashes with Cambodia have left nine Thai soldiers dead and about 190 people injured.

Following a period of calm between the two countries after fighting first broke out along border areas back in the summer, the conflict has dramatically reignited since Sunday afternoon, with both sides accusing the other of initiating the attack.

A Thai Defense Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday that over 400,000 Thai residents across seven provinces had been evacuated in the wake of the latest flare up, which has also forced some 800 schools and many hospitals to temporarily close in the border areas.

Local authorities in the northeastern Thai province of Surin have organized a large-scale evacuation of people from the danger zones, with over 60,000 residents being transferred to temporary shelters.

One such camp set up inside a university campus is currently accommodating over 800 displaced people who have fled from border areas.

The shelter offers a water and electricity supply, internet access, medical assistance, and a children's activity space, ensuring that people's basic needs are met, according to the shelter's director.

"This area can accommodate approximately 800 people evacuated from various border regions. The government and non-profit organizations are responsible for providing health care, while these organizations and people across the country are donating food, essential supplies, and drinking water," he said.

Locals are taking refuge at the site say there was little time to bring any personal belongings when the alarm was raised over the clashes, and are hopeful the situation will improve soon.

"When the village head officially announced the evacuation notice, everyone began packing bags. We only brought the essentials, knowing that any delay would make the evacuation even more difficult. Here, care is provided in all aspects, with good living conditions, meals, and hygiene facilities. However, I miss home and don't want to stay away for too long," said a local villager.

According to Cambodia's Ministry of Interior, more than 270,000 civilians on the Cambodian side have fled their homes in search of safety amid the new round of border clashes.

The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, was blanketed by Beijing's first snow of this winter on Friday, transforming the 600-year-old imperial palace complex into a picturesque winter wonderland and drawing crowds of visitors eager to capture its beauty.

The UNESCO World Heritage site, once the palace of the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties, saw its iconic red walls and yellow glazed roofs covered with soft white snow, creating a striking visual contrast.

Braving the cold, many tourists flocked there to record the beautiful scenes with their cameras.
