China reaffirmed its commitment to combating corruption and enhancing international cooperation during the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, or the UN Anti-Corruption Conference, in Doha, Qatar, on Monday, where it outlined its domestic achievements and called for stronger global efforts.
Hua Chunying, head of the Chinese delegation and vice foreign minister, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Hua said that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government firmly oppose corruption. She emphasized that the Party's long-term governance experience has shown the importance of strict self-discipline and a sustained anti-corruption campaign. She said China's anti-corruption efforts have achieved historic results and won broad public support.
She noted that the CPC Central Committee's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct has become a defining feature of its internal discipline, aiming to eliminate the breeding ground for corruption. The policy has gained broader value by promoting integrity, fairness, and credibility beyond China's borders.
Hua also said China will host a series of anti-corruption meetings during its 2026 APEC chairmanship and welcomes international participation to promote dialogue and cooperation.
She said that President Xi Jinping's "five commitments" on global governance offer useful guidance for international anti-corruption cooperation. She called on countries to uphold principles such as sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, people-centered approaches, and practical outcomes. She urged all parties to fulfill their treaty obligations, strengthen fugitive repatriation and asset recovery mechanisms, improve efficient cooperation, and prevent safe havens for corruption.
The United Nations Convention against Corruption is the most authoritative and influential global treaty in the field, with 192 states parties. The five-day conference includes discussions on treaty implementation, technical assistance, corruption prevention, asset recovery, and international cooperation. China will participate fully in all agenda items.
