Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed his gratitude to China and the Chinese people for supporting and helping the East African country.
In an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG) aired on Friday, Mohamud said he has been grateful for China's support and hoped that the two countries would work together more.
"I would say thank you China for standing with Somalia for the last 65 years and we are very much grateful for the support that has been provided to us by the Chinese people. And we're looking forward to working together more. As I said earlier, our relationship with China has always been a straight line. It has never been curved up and down. And we keep continue that straight line in the future. And I just wanted to let the Chinese people know that we are very much grateful for their support for Somalia and Somali people as well, and I thank them," said the Somali president.
Somalia and China on Tuesday marked the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Over the past decades, the Chinese government has built over 80 infrastructural projects like hospitals, stadiums, airport, and roads to ease the burden of the Somali people.
In addition, China has donated 1 million U.S. dollars to help drought-hit people in Somalia, where at least 4.4 million people are projected to face acute food insecurity through December. The donation was handed over in early December.
