Tourist destinations across China are rolling out creative scenarios and new business models to boost tourist arrivals as the country is embracing a winter tourism peak.
An XR [extended reality] experience program themed around Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum has become increasingly popular in Xi'an, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province. Tourists can use head-mounted displays to "step into" the underground palace of the mausoleum and have a "dialogue" across time and space with the Terracotta Warriors therein.
Emperor Qinshihuang (the First Sovereign Emperor) reigned 221–210 BCE of ancient China's Qin Dynasty and was creator of the first unified Chinese empire.
In Pu'er City of southwest China's Yunnan Province, coffee-themed rural tourism is gaining popularity. Every stage of coffee production, from harvesting and processing to roasting, has been integrated into a special tourism project that can be personally experienced by tourists.
A series of new scenarios and new business models have shifted travel from a mere "visit" to an "immersive experience." In Kaifeng, central China’s Henan Province, tourists can step into scenic areas to immerse themselves in the folk culture of the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
In Zhangzhou, east China’s Fujian Province, intangible cultural heritage performances have transformed an old town into a new platform for experiencing the Minnan culture -- a rich and vibrant regional culture originating from the southeastern coastal areas of China, particularly in Fujian Province, and has significant influence in the Taiwan region and Southeast Asia.
In Shexian County, east China’s Anhui Province, tourists can make cultural and creative products such as fish-shaped lanterns, paper cuttings, and inkstones with their own hands.
"Visitors can make their own fish-shaped lanterns at the workshop and participate in our live lantern parade in the evening," said Wang Yufeng, a staff member at the county's culture, tourism and sports bureau.
Other regions across China are also successively rolling out winter-themed tourism consumption season programs. East China’s Zhejiang Province has launched 10 winter tourism scenarios focusing on food, sports events, cultural heritage and study tours, with the introduction of more than 400 preferential policies for participants, including consumption vouchers, scenic spot discounts, and accommodation discounts.
Southwest China's Sichuan Province has launched a new series of winter tourism season programs, with the adoption of preferential measures for tourists in association with ski resorts and ice and snow scenic spots in neighboring Chongqing Municipality.
The 29th Changchun Ice and Snow Festival opened Friday in northeast China's Jilin Province, offering visitors an immersive experience with unique ice sculptures, snowscapes, and winter sports events.
