Residents, tourists enjoy winter sports in China

Winter sports with local characteristics are creating fun for residents and tourists in China.

While launching a series of activities integrating ice and snow sports with cultural tourism on Dec 20, Jixi City in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province also opened its third winter games for residents. More than 2,000 people including locals and tourists participated in the opening ceremony.

The event included ice hockey matches and special sports such as dragon boat races on ice and ball-carrying running races, where both the winter sports enthusiasts and audiences shared the joy of competing on ice and snow.

A major indoor ski resort in Rongxian County of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is offering a wide range of activities for people of different age groups, including areas for kids to enjoy toy train rides and ice slides.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 49 pips to 7.0523 against the U.S. dollar Tuesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.

In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.

The central parity rate of the yuan against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
