China will further enhance its modern integrated transportation system next year as the transportation sector maintained stable operations supported by steady growth in key indicators throughout 2025, Vice Minister of Transport Li Yang said at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.
Li told the media that fixed-asset investment in transport exceeded 3.6 trillion yuan (around 511.29 billion U.S. dollars) over the past year, adding more than 2,000 kilometers of new high-speed railway lines, approximately 8,000 kilometers of expressways, and five civil airports.
Throughout the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) period, significant progress has been made in improving transportation efficiency and service quality, said Jin Jingdong, deputy director of the Department of Comprehensive Planning of the Ministry of Transport.
"During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, major transportation infrastructure projects we planned have made overall smooth progress, achieving breakthrough advancements in the construction of the national comprehensive multidimensional transportation networks. The core framework of China's national network, comprising six axes, seven corridors and eight channels, has been largely completed, connecting more than 80 percent of China's county-level administrative regions and serving about 90 percent of the nation's economy and population. Fixed asset investment in transportation reached 18.8 trillion yuan, significantly enhancing overall transportation capacity and operational efficiency," Jin said.
Looking ahead, Jin also emphasized that China will continue to deepen reforms and drive innovation within the transportation sector.
"During the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period, we will continue to focus on the strategic goal of accelerating the construction of a strong transportation nation, speed up the improvement of a modern comprehensive transportation system, plan and build a number of major engineering projects, and accelerate the integration of transportation, enhanced safety, digital and intelligent upgrading, and green transformation of transportation. Efforts will be further intensified to complete major transportation corridors, better supporting the smooth circulation of the national economy and facilitate convenient travel for the people," he said.
