A Chinese spokesperson on Wednesday slammed Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities led by Lai Ching-te for selling out Taiwan's competitive industries.
Spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office Peng Qing'en made the remarks at a regular press conference in Beijing, following a reporter's question about the DPP authorities' participation in an inaugural silica summit organized by the United States.
"We oppose the U.S. providing a stage for Taiwan separatists. Lai Ching-te and the DPP authorities, for seeking 'Taiwan separatism', deliberately incite ideological confrontation and advocate for the false narrative of so-called 'democracy versus authoritarianism,' which are unpopular. The so-called 'democratic supply chain' is, in fact, Lai Ching-te authorities' violation of economic rules and market rules and shameless accommodation of external force. They sacrifice Taiwan's competitive industries, its development prospects, and the livelihoods of the people in Taiwan, for external support for their pursuit of 'Taiwan separatism'. What they say and do will only escalate the tensions across the Taiwan Strait, increase the burden on the people in Taiwan, and jeopardize Taiwan's economic lifeline and development prospects," said Peng.
