President of the Commonwealth of Dominica Sylvanie Burton has reaffirmed the Caribbean country's commitment to the one-China principle and called on other countries in the region to support China's national reunification.

Burton made a productive visit to China in October. During an interview with China Media Group (CMG) which aired on Friday, she made an appeal to countries that have not yet established diplomatic relations with China to follow Dominica's lead in recognizing the one-China policy.

"So Dominica can be an example to the other countries in the Caribbean. The fact is we believe that there is one China. All of China should be reunified because it's one country. And one province shouldn't be a country by on its own, fighting its mother country. And so, we continue to advocate on behalf of China for the reunification of Taiwan with China, and also to advocate that our brothers and sisters in the other countries who have not established that diplomatic relations with China should come on board," she said.

The president also emphasized that Dominica will make joint efforts with countries in the region to develop partnerships with China to promote common development.

"For us, we are happy that we have the Chinese embassy in Dominica and we can work with our brothers and sisters, the other Caribbean countries, the other CELAC countries, which includes Latin America, to ensure that we all speak with one voice, and we continue to work progressively for the development of all countries, but also working with China as a partner," she said.
