Affected by the subsequent winter monsoon, the northerly wind in the area around Guangdong will be enhanced. The temperature will drop significantly over the weekend following New Year's Day. The minimum temperature on Friday and Saturday can be around 11 to 12 degrees Celsius. The observatory also expects that the weather will be sunny and dry at the start of next week, and it will still be rather cool in the morning.

As of 6 a.m., the Hong Kong Observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest since the beginning of autumn this year. The observatory also said that some areas in the New Territories would be cold, expecting that strong northerly winds would blow in Hong Kong and bring an obvious wind-chill effect.

It would be quite cool in the urban area in the morning, while some parts of the New Territories would be cold. The weather is expected to be quite dry, with a daytime high of around 17 degrees Celsius. A strong northerly wind will blow, with strong winds offshore and on high ground. Later in the day, the wind will ease.
