China's annual per capita sports spending continued to rise in 2025, according to a report based on a nationwide fitness survey organized by the General Administration of Sport of China.
The report shows that annual per capita sports consumption in 2025 reached 2,428 yuan (about 347 U.S. dollars) among residents aged 19 to 59, while those aged 60 and above spent an average of 1,451 yuan, both marking a significant increase compared with 2020.
Beyond the total expenditure, the structure of sports consumption is undergoing a profound optimization. Service-based spending now accounts for 48.5 percent of the total, signaling a transition in consumer preference from sports goods to services, such as events participation and spectator sports.
This shift in spending habits is mirrored by the expansion of the population with exercise habits. According to the report, 38.52 percent of residents aged seven and above regularly engage in exercise, an increase of 4.6 percentage points from 2015 and 1.3 percentage points from 2020.
The report also notes that challenges remain in advancing nationwide fitness. Imbalances between urban and rural areas as well as across regions persist.
