Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Tuesday that China's relationship with the world is developing in a more positive direction, and that its international influence, capacity to lead new initiatives, and moral appeal have increased significantly in 2025.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while addressing a symposium on the international situation and China's foreign relations in 2025.

This year, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, China has held high the banner of building a community with a shared future for humanity, followed the strategic guidance of head-of-state diplomacy, united progressive forces across the world with utmost sincerity, and built the momentum for peace and development with greatest efforts, Wang said.

He noted that China has acted as an anchor for stability in a troubled world where peace is under threat, as a pillar of the region facing a new environment in its neighborhood, and as a defining force in a changing international order. It has also acted as a main engine in overcoming the global development predicament, and as a steadying force in addressing critical challenges to international justice. Wang said that this year, the international landscape evolved toward an important watershed.

"Unilateralism and hegemonism find no support, and a multipolar world is in the making. Amid once-in-a-century transformations, old and new problems intensified. The contest between progress and regression sharpened," the minister said.

Wang described the China-U.S. relationship as one of the most consequential bilateral relationships in today's world, with the strategic choices of both countries set to shape global history.

"The course of the China-U.S. relationship over the past year demonstrates a fact: Mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between China and the U.S. is key to the stability and development of this relationship and the prosperity of the world," he said

Wang also referred to the Taiwan question as he turned to broader issues shaping bilateral ties.

"This year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to the motherland. Realizing complete national reunification is a lawful action of safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a historical mission that we must fulfill," he said.

The minister also warned of a resurgence of militarism and criticized Japan's attempts to revise the post-war international order.

"We must stay highly vigilant to the resurgence of militarism in Japan, resolutely defend the victorious outcomes of World War II achieved with great sacrifice, and effectively safeguard the hard-earned peace and stability," he said.

Looking ahead, Wang said that its major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics should accomplish more in 2026.

He said that China will provide stronger strategic support for national development and rejuvenation, blaze new trails in forging a new type of major-country relations, work more actively to build a community with a shared future with neighboring countries, and foster greater synergy for the Global South's joint march toward modernization.

China will inject stronger impetus into global openness and cooperation, make greater contributions to reforming and improving global governance, and act with a stronger sense of mission and responsibility in safeguarding national interests, he noted.

"With a steadfast will unyielding to bullying, we will continue to enhance and improve our capabilities in countering sanctions, interference, and 'long-arm jurisdiction', and have stronger institutional safeguards in place to protect the interests of our country and people," said Wang.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command on Tuesday conducted drills in waters east of Taiwan Island, focusing on all-dimensional force projection, breaching and raids by elite forces, as well as the seizure of key ports, according to the theater command.

On Tuesday afternoon, task forces from the amphibious assault ship Hainan, along with those from destroyers, frigates, and unmanned aerial vehicles, carried out joint drills.

The drills tested the capabilities of task force coordination, systemic operations, and precision strikes on key targets, said the theater command.
