The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are the obstacles for both sides across the Taiwan Strait to resume cross-Strait exchanges, Zhang Han, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said in Beijing on Wednesday.
Zhang was responding to a media query regarding the recent claim made by Chiu Chui-cheng, head of the Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, who alleged that the mainland has always been an obstacle to exchanges and interactions across the Strait.
"The DPP authorities are the main culprits in inciting cross-Strait confrontation and obstructing cross-Strait exchanges. Since coming to power, the DPP authorities, driven by their separatist agenda, have continuously obstructed and restricted normal cross-Strait exchanges and personnel exchanges under various pretexts and in various ways, spreading 'green terror,' creating a chilling effect, and escalating cross-Strait tensions. These moves that go against the trend of the times have caused increasingly strong dissatisfaction and led to firm opposition from more and more people in Taiwan. Cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation are unstoppable. We always uphold the concept of 'both sides of the Strait belong to one family,' welcoming compatriots in Taiwan to visit the mainland, participate in exchanges and cooperation in various fields across the Strait, share the opportunities brought by Chinese-style modernization, and work together for the long-term well-being of the Chinese nation," said Zhang.
