Chinese President Xi Jinping's New Year message demonstrates China's confidence in achieving its development goals, emphasizing the consistency of China's progress and its positive impact on the global stage, according to observers worldwide.

In his message, President Xi summed up the tangible progress made in 2025 and called for solid steps to promote high-quality development in the new year to deliver prosperity for all.

Galina Kulikova, first deputy chairperson of the Russia-China Friendship Association, commented that Xi's message boosts confidence among the Chinese people in fulfilling their development plans, while Russia and other countries will support China in realizing the goals set in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).

"I believe China has every reason to be proud of its achievements and to welcome the new year of 2026 with confidence. I extend my heartfelt wishes to the Chinese people as they usher in the Year of the Horse. The horse is an intelligent and hardworking animal. It carries heavy loads, presses forward with determination, and moves steadily toward its goals. For this reason, I firmly believe that China will successfully fulfill all its development plans. The 15th Five-Year Plan will be realized through cooperation with Russia and all countries that support China," said Kulikova.

Xi said that China will continue to embrace the world with open arms. Former Egyptian Assistant Minister of State Ayman Mosharafa said that China has demonstrated itself an advocate for social development through its continuous efforts.

"The speech of the president was quite clear that China is an advocate of social development. China had presented the initiative, the Belt and Road, which go in line with the United Nations Initiative 2030, about combating poverty, more South-South cooperation, more economic integration, more interest rate," said Mosharafa.

Alibek Tazhibayev, director of Center for Analytical Research Eurasian Monitoring (Kazakhstan), said that Xi's speech highlighted the consistency of China's development and its positive global impact.

"What stands out most for me in this speech is its remarkable consistency. Year after year, for nearly 70 years, China has demonstrated uninterrupted, systematic development. With the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan, we can clearly see how strategic and long-term this approach has been. The initiatives announced in 2025 were truly decisive and system forming. President Xi Jinping placed special emphasis on issues of global development and global security, highlighting China's growing role in shaping the future of the world," said Tazhibayev.

Crowds gathered at the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar in Urumqi -- the capital city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region -- on the New Year's Eve to welcome the arrival of the year 2026 with spectacular performances. ‌ Dance teams moved through the bazaar's square and pedestrian streets in a procession-style farewell-to-the-old-year performance, accompanied by the cheerful sounds of drums, allowing visitors to interact with performers.

Local authorities said Xinjiang vigorously promoted such mass cultural activities, staging more than 100,000 cultural events in 2025 that benefited more than 40 million people, enriching the spiritual and cultural lives of all ethnic groups.

The Grand Bazaar, a landmark in Urumqi showcasing Xinjiang's architecture, cuisine and ethnic dances, was lit up with red lanterns and ornaments. Despite freezing temperatures, visitors filled the pedestrian streets, shopping, taking photos and joining in the celebrations.

Unique cultural creative products like the "Nang Cultural Creative" series -- inspired by Xinjiang's traditional bread -- were popular among visitors. Featuring plush toys, pillows, backpacks and fridge magnets, such items became top souvenirs. Staff said such products, along with handicrafts, and local food, have significantly boosted spending during the holiday season.

Xinjiang has undergone profound changes over the past 70 years since the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, with improved living standards and a flourishing tourism industry attracting visitors from around the world.
