History has proven and will continue to prove that any attempt to pursue Taiwan secession separatism is doomed to fail, said Chen Binhua, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council. Chen made the remarks at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday, slamming the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for pursuing secession agenda.

"Perusing Taiwan secession separatism means war, which leads only to a dead end. We have full confidence and capability to crush any attempt at 'de jure Taiwan secession' in whatever form, and we will never allow separatist forces to split Taiwan from China under any name or by any means. History has proven and will continue to prove that any attempt to pursue Taiwan secession separatism will come to no good end and be doomed to fail. The Taiwan secession separatists daring to take reckless moves and cross red line will be met with resolute countermeasures in accordance with the Anti-Secession Law. We urge compatriots in Taiwan to fully recognize the evil nature and serious harm of Taiwan secession, stand on the right side of history, firmly oppose Taiwan secession separatist activities, and work together with the central authorities to safeguard peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait as well as the shared home of the Chinese nation," Chen said.

Protesters filled Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma on Saturday, rallying in solidarity with Venezuela and denouncing U.S. influence in Latin America.

The United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela in the early hours of Jan 3, taking by force Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

Holding numerous flags and banners while chanting slogans intermittently, a huge crowd of protesters criticized U.S. military actions against Venezuela and the unlawful control over President Maduro and his spouse, calling for respect for national sovereignty and regional peace.

"We oppose the U.S. intervention and hegemony towards the countries in Latin America. The United States has flagrantly trampled on international law, bombed Caracas and kidnapped the Maduro couple. The U.S. interventionism has become extremely blatant. We must firmly oppose and be highly vigilant, because this is not only related to a certain country, but also to all countries," said a protester.

"We demand that the United States stop interfering in Venezuela's internal affairs. The country must immediately cease its exploitation and plundering of the countries in Latin America," said another protester.
