African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf reiterated the body's adherence to the one-China principle in an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Friday.

Linking China's territorial integrity to Africa's experience with secessionist pressures, Youssouf emphasized that defending the one-China principle is also a way of safeguarding Africa's unity.

"The one-China principle is something that we share and adhere to, because we leave the same thing on the continent. I think the Chinese border is as sacred as African country borders. That's why we believe in the one-China principle because we don't support the idea of secessionist regions. And most recently, Somaliland was one of the most recent case in the African continent. We believe that in supporting the one-China principle, we are helping ourselves on the continent, because we are faced with the same challenge on this continent. So that's why we will be on board with China with the issue of one-China principle, one-China policy, forever," he said.

RIA Novosti said data from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund show that U.S. purchasing power parity sank to 14.65 percent last year.

That's compared to an average of 14.93 percent during former President Joe Biden's four years in office.
