The majority of the people in Taiwan aspire for peace, development, exchanges and cooperation, and secessionists are abound to be swept away by history, said Zhang Xiaogang, spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, at a press conference in Beijing on Friday.
Zhang made the remarks in response to reports on a latest opinion poll in Taiwan which shows that over 60 percent of respondents expressed unwillingness to be enlisted, either themselves or their families.
""This once again indicates that the majority of people within the island aspire for peace, development, exchanges, and cooperation, and they don't want to see confrontation or even armed conflict across the Taiwan Strait. The Lai Ching-te regime is going against the people's will, seeking secession and provoking conflict. More and more people are to see through their true nature as peace saboteurs, crisis makers and war-mongers. I believe that no one is willing to be cannon fodder for Taiwan separatists. The Taiwan secessionists, acting against the will of the people, will ultimately be swept into the dust heap of history," he said.
