Chinese Premier Li Qiang held a welcome ceremony for visiting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday.
Starmer arrived in the Chinese capital on Wednesday to begin a four-day official visit at the invitation of Li, marking the first trip by a British prime minister to China in eight years.

During the welcome ceremony, a military band played the national anthems of the two countries.
Starmer, accompanied by Li, then reviewed the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations(UN)Amir Saeid Iravani has warned that U.S. President Donald Trump's latest warmongering statements will escalate regional tensions.
In a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Abukar Dahir Osman, Iravani said the remarks pose a direct threat to international peace and security, according to Iranian media reports released Thursday.
Such rhetoric from the U.S. side heightens regional tensions, increases the risk of miscalculation and poses a direct threat to international peace and security, he said in the letter.
The Iranian government firmly rejects and condemns such belligerent rhetoric, deeming it irresponsible, provocative and clearly violates international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter, he said.
Iran demands a halt to all threats and illegal actions that destabilize Iran, Iravani said.
In the event of an attack, Iran will take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the safety of its people. The United States will bear full responsibility for any uncontrolled consequences arising from any act of aggression, he said in the letter.
