China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security and in opposing external interference, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday.
Guo made the statement at a press conference in Beijing in response to a question regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's signing of an executive order on Thursday threatening to impose tariffs on countries that sell oil to Cuba.
"China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security and in opposing external interference, and resolutely opposes any actions and inhumane practices that deprive the Cuban people of their right to survival and development," Guo said.

The format of a new round of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi is still under negotiation, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, on Thursday.
According to Peskov, the specific format will be negotiated until the talks begin on February 1, and if necessary, the talks may last for two days.
He also noted that Russia has proposed a one-year extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) between the United States and Russia, which is set to expire on February 5, but has not received any reply from the U.S. side.
Regarding Russia's invitation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for peace talks in Moscow, Peskov said no reply has been received from the Ukrainian side.
Trilateral talks between delegations from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine were previously held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, from last Friday to Saturday, marking the first trilateral engagement since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022.
