Iran's armed forces are "at full defensive and military readiness," Army Chief Amir Hatami said on Saturday, as geopolitical tensions escalate across the Middle East following a visible U.S. military buildup near Iranian territory.
Speaking at a military ceremony in Tehran, Hatami emphasized that the country's defensive capabilities can not be destroyed. After going through the "12-day war" with Israel, Iran has significantly improved its missile, offensive, and defensive capacities, the chief commander highlighted.
The Iranian armed forces are "on high alert," Hatami said, warning that any mistake by the enemy will be met with a severe response, and adding that Iran is closely monitoring developments in the region.
The remarks come amid a sustained U.S. military reinforcement in the Middle East. Reports indicate that the U.S. has deployed at least 10 warships to waters near Iran and, in the past week alone, has sent 42 transport aircraft. While Washington has signaled a willingness to engage in dialogue, it continues to exert both military and diplomatic pressure on Teheran. In response, Iran issued a series of warnings and has started ramping up its military preparedness for possible conflict.
