More than 1,000 Palestinians -- almost a quarter of them children -- have been killed in the occupied West Bank since the latest round of conflict between Israel and Hamas broke out in October 2023, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
In a statement issued on Sunday, Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the UN relief agency, said that violence in the West Bank has escalated to record levels.
He said that since Israeli forces launched a massive military operation named "Iron Wall" in the West Bank's Jenin and Tulkarma a year ago, tens of thousands of people have been displaced, the largest displacement since 1967.
Attacks by Israeli settlers against local Palestinians continue unabated, with Palestinian communities being constantly intimidated, uprooted and their livelihoods ruined, according to the statement.
