Data released on Sunday by Gaza health authorities showed that hospitals across the Strip received 26 bodies and treated 68 wounded over the past 48 hours, bringing the Palestinian death toll since the conflict between Israel and Hamas erupted on Oct. 7, 2023, to 71,795, with 171,551 people injured.

Since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect on October 11, 2025, the death toll in the enclave has risen to 523, with 1,433 others injured, according to the health authorities.

A significant number of victims remain buried under the rubble in the Gaza Strip, according to reports. Search-and-rescue teams have so far been unable to reach them due to shortages of rescue equipment and ongoing Israeli military restrictions in some areas.

At least 200 miners were killed after several mine shafts collapsed at coltan sites in Rubaya of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a spokesperson for the March 23 Movement rebel group confirmed on Friday.

Most of the victims were artisanal miners who were buried, the spokesperson said, adding that children and women were also among the dead.

The collapses occurred on Wednesday and Thursday at different coltan mines in Rubaya, an area controlled by the rebels since April 2024.

Coltan, or columbite-tantalite, is the main source of tantalum, a rare metal used in the production of advanced electronic devices. The United Nations estimated that the Rubaya mines alone account for about 15 percent of the global tantalum supply.
