The China Media Group (CMG) 2026 Spring Festival Gala promotional video was screened on loop at a themed cultural event in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, over the weekend, adding a festive atmosphere to the North African city.

The event, held at the Cultural City of Tunis, saw attendance by over 300 distinguished guests, including Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Ali Nafti and Minister of Cultural Affairs Amina Srarfi, Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Wan Li, and diplomats from multiple countries, alongside nearly 1,500 local spectators.

The Chinese Embassy in Tunisia also hosted a 2026 Spring Festival reception on Saturday in connection with the performance.

In his address, Ambassador Wan Li stressed that China and Tunisia share highly compatible views on civilization, stressing the need to jointly protect ancient civilizational roots, foster development through innovation, and deepen mutual understanding via exchanges.

The artistic highlight featured performances by artists from the Gansu Provincial Song and Dance Theater, who presented a rich program including dance, traditional instrumental music, and acrobatics, all centered on the Silk Road culture. Their exquisite skills drew admiration from the local audience, who responded with warm applause.

Minister Srarfi expressed her hopes for the new year.

"I hope the new year will be filled with happiness and joy, and that it will also be a year of friendship between Tunisia and China. This is the Year of the Horse, and I wish all Chinese people a happy Spring Festival," she said.

Democratic Republic of the Congo Ambassador to Tunisia Mwendanga Musengo Desire‑Salomon highlighted his close ties with China in remarks at the event.

"I know China very well. In fact, China is my second home. I've watched the Spring Festival Gala many times, and it always brings me great joy and emotion. This is the Year of the Horse, and it's also my animal year, as I turn 60. I wish China everlasting peace and happiness for all Chinese people," he said.

Local resident Yasmin praised the gala's cultural depth, noting how it showcased diverse traditions from across China.

"I really appreciated the fact that they brought all the different regions of China. So we had the opportunity as Tunisians to discover the diversification of the Chinese culture. I hope you will be really happy at the end of this Year of the Horse," she said.
