China and Russia must seize the historic opportunity to advance relations with deeper strategic coordination to ensure that China-Russia relations continue to develop along the right path, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday in a virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the meeting, Xi noted he and Putin have met on two occasions over the past year, leading China-Russian relations into a new stage of development.
He said this year sees a number of notable milestones in China-Russia ties and also marks the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period, which will map out the country's development priorities for the years ahead.
"Over the past year, I have met with you twice, Mr. President, leading China-Russia relations into a new stage of development. The year 2026 marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, during which China will adopt a more proactive approach to expanding high-level opening-up. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination, the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between China and Russia, and the launch of the China-Russia Years of Education. We must seize this historic opportunity, ensuring that China-Russia relations continue to develop steadily along the right path with deeper strategic coordination and more proactive assumption of responsibilities of major countries," he said.
Xi also called on the two countries to increase high-level exchanges and strengthen pragmatic cooperation across various fields.
