Participants at the just-concluded 2026 Web Summit Qatar in Doha have expressed growing interest in expanding cooperation with China in the high-tech sector, with many identifying the country's advances in artificial intelligence as a key area for collaboration.

The four-day Web Summit event, the latest edition of one of the world's most influential technology conferences, wrapped up on Wednesday after bringing together thousands of global tech leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors to the Qatari capital.

At the summit, the technological prowess demonstrated by Chinese companies in the fields of AI, new energy, and robotics received high attention from attendees. Representatives at the gathering pointed to how China possesses unique advantages in promoting the ongoing green transition, its efforts in making advanced technology more accessible, and its work in bridging the global digital divide.

Many expressed their desire to further deepen technological cooperation with China in these high-tech fields.

"I see there is huge potential. And there is so many markets where we can join forces and succeed. We have huge opportunities and they are welcoming over here. And you have so many chances to share forces and provide the best to the community and the customers in China," said Abdulhadi Nayem, a participant from Bahrain.

Meanwhile, Nail Valiyev, the founder of a Berlin-based AI start-up, outlined his company's plans for deeper collaboration with firms in east China's Suzhou.

"China is amazing with AI and also with visual AI. We are working with the Suzhou Industrial Park and we will be most probably incorporated also in Suzhou. We have great partners there and we would like to also hire new people in computer vision, machine learning, AI, and also sales and marketing in China," he said.

Some Japanese people said on Thursday that the government led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi must firmly uphold the pacifist constitution.

Their remarks came after French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Japan from Tuesday to Thursday.

Attending a joint press conference with Takaichi on Wednesday, Macron emphasized that France and Japan have agreed on the importance of on the importance of quickly de-escalating the conflict in the Middle East and upholding international law.

Many saw this as a response to a strongly worded post by U.S. President Donald Trump on social media, which criticized France for refusing to cooperate with the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

Some locals in Tokyo expressed their opposition to Japan's involvement in any war, but said Japan could offer help when the conflict in the Middle East ends.

"I think that Prime Minister Takaichi could offer support, provided that we wouldn't get involved in an armed conflict, such as minesweeping operations at sea, as Japan has the best minesweeping technology in the world," said a resident in Tokyo.

"I'm not entirely sure what consequences will follow Trump's demands. There may be additional tariffs, among other things. Our constitution prohibits [Japan's] from getting involved in war, and Prime Minister Takaichi should uphold this principle," said another resident.
