Ice and snow attractions are drawing crowds to a snow park in Shanghai, giving visitors a rare chance to enjoy a winter wonderland in an east Chinese city that seldom sees snow.
The Shanghai Yaoxue Snow World, adorned with sparkling sculptures and winter‑themed displays, becomes a playground where children revel in ice and snow fun and the thrill of winter play.
"Children are on winter holiday, and they have not seen snow before. Yes, they are excited," said a visitor.
To mark the Year of the Horse, the snow world unveiled a massive ice sculpture inspired by the classic painting "The Eight Horses" by renowned Chinese artist Xu Beihong. The installation is crafted from 1,300 blocks of ice weighing more than 100 tonnes.
Olympic motifs decorate the snow park in celebration of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, where visitors snap photos at a winter-sports themed wall to capture their own Olympic moments.
"The linkage with the Winter Olympics is interesting. It's a good opportunity to experience it," said a visitor.
The park has also introduced interactive attractions such as ice-bike racing and snow bowling. It also has a ski slope for beginners. Since its opening two months ago, it has welcomed about 15,000 novice skiers.
During the Spring Festival holiday, the park will stage a variety of cultural and entertainment events, including traditional Yingge Dance, ski-dragon and lion dances, and an electronic music festival. Discounted ticket packages will also be offered to attract visitors.
