U.S. stocks close higher

U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,206.95 points, or 2.47 percent, to 50,115.67. The S and P 500 added 133.90 points, or 1.97 percent, to 6,932.3. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 490.627 points, or 2.18 percent, to 23,031.213.

Nine of the 11 primary S and P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and industrials leading the gainers by going up 4.10 percent and 2.84 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and consumer discretionary led the laggards by dropping 1.51 percent and 0.66 percent, respectively.

Crude futures settle higher

 

Oil prices inched up on Friday.

The West Texas Intermediate for March delivery gained 26 cents, or 0.41 percent, to settle at 63.55 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for April delivery added 50 cents, or 0.74 percent, to settle at 68.05 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
