Hong Kong Science Museum's exhibition on sports science welcomes its 250 000th visitor

The "Bank of China (Hong Kong) Presents: National Development and Achievements Series - Approaching Perfection: The Intersection of Sports and Science" exhibition at the Hong Kong Science Museum (HKScM) has been widely welcomed by the local public and visitors since its opening in late October last year, receiving over 250 000 visitors to date. The exhibition is in support of the 2025 National Games, which successfully concluded earlier. It has effectively extended the sports fever sparked by the Games, allowing visitors to experience the essence and enjoyment of various sports, contributing to the high attendance. As the exhibition will run only until February 25, members of the public are advised to seize the opportunity to visit this exhibitionduring the remaining two weeks.

TheDeputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Culture), Miss Eve Tam, and the Deputy General Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility Office of Bank of China (Hong Kong), Ms Angel Yip, welcomed the 250 000th visitor to the exhibition yesterday (February 10) and presented gifts to the visitor and her family at the HKScM.

Emma Leung, a Primary Five student, was the 250 000th visitor. She shared that she had previously visited the Science Museum with her school. For this visit, she invited her family, who live in Belgium and have returned to Hong Kong for Chinese New Year. Emma participated in various sporting activities at the exhibition, such as cycling, volleyball jumping, and fitness testing, which she found very interesting.

The exhibition introduces the country's remarkable sports achievements, offers a scientific perspective of various sports disciplines and the keys to success, showcases how innovative technologies assist athletes to scale new heights, and encourages the public to develop a healthy and active lifestyle. Featuring more than 20 interactive exhibits, the exhibition invites visitors to experience the essence and enjoyment of various sports, such as the spin of rugby, the jumps of beach volleyball, the speed of track cycling, the precision of golf, the attacks of fencing, and the defence of basketball. Visitors can also take part in fitness tests in the "Sports for Wellness" zone to better understand their own physical condition. For the public to understand the concept of sports comprehensively and learn how to integrate sports into everyday life, the exhibition covers sports psychology, sports medicine, and sports nutrition.

The exhibition also presents Hong Kong athletes' medals and equipment, including the track-cycling gear of Lee Wai-sze and the gold medal won by Wu Siu-hong at the IBF World Bowling Championships, which highlight athletes' relentless efforts and pursuit of excellence in the spirit of sportsmanship.

The HKScM has also organised a series of activities that are free of charge with on-site enrolment. Fixed point guided tours in Cantonese are provided on Saturdays, Sundays and on the February 19, with three sessions each day, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of sports science. A "Speedy Science Crafts" activity will be held on February 24 while the "Athletic Games of Friction" Workshop will be held on February 25, offering visitors a more enriching experience.

The exhibition is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as the second edition of the National Development and Achievements Series. It is organised by the HKScM, and exclusively sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong). In addition, the HKScM has recently launched three new exhibitions, namely "Living Tech Gallery", "InnoTech Gallery" and "AI Gallery". Visitors can enjoy these three new exhibitions along with the sports science exhibition in one go, enjoying a diverse and multifaceted scientific exploration experience. Labour Department enhances industry-based recruitment and employment services

The Labour Department (LD) announced today (March 16) that the 10 job centres across the territory will strengthen recruitment and employment services for the catering, retail and construction industries from April 1, including organising more district-based job fairs, staging recruitment weeks and strengthening employment advisory services for these industries, with a view to providing employers and job seekers with more convenient and appropriate services.

The LD today also launched enhanced industry-based thematic webpages - Dedicated Webpages on Catering, Retail and Construction Industries - to provide job seekers with the latest information about these sectors, including job fairs, job vacancies and recruitment trends. Job seekers may also receive information about newly posted job vacancies via email or push notifications through the Interactive Employment Service website and its mobile application.

In addition, the LD will organise three large-scale "Embarking on a New Journey" industry-based job fairs at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok on April 21, May 12 and May 13 to provide a large number of job vacancies from the above industries. Details of the district-based job fairs and recruitment weeks for the industries to be held at job centres will be announced nearer the time on the Dedicated Webpages on Catering, Retail and Construction Industries.

To enhance the effective use of public resources, the Recruitment Centre for the Catering Industry and Retail Industry in Cheung Sha Wan, as well as the Recruitment Centre for the Construction Industry in Ngau Tau Kok, will cease operation on April 1. Members of the public may visit job centres in various districts or browse the Dedicated Webpages on Catering, Retail and Construction Industries for employment information and services related to these sectors.

The LD will continue to enhance its services in light of service needs and market situation to further improve efficiency.
