Thirty giant panda cubs were gathered at two breeding bases in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Wednesday to send Spring Festival greetings to all Chinese people through a video link.
All the cubs were born in 2025 -- 18 at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, and 12 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
The event featured a total of four exhibition booths located at the Ya'an base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, the Shenshuping giant panda base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, and both the Star and Moon delivery rooms at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
Each booth was dominated by vibrant Chinese red, representing jubilation and good fortune, adorned with red lanterns and festive elements inspired by the Year of the Horse, creating a joyful atmosphere for the upcoming holiday. These booths were adorned with bamboo segments inscribed with New Year greetings, bamboo woven products, symbolizing reunion, and extensive recreational facilities for the cubs.
The Spring Festival, which falls on Feb 17 this year, is the most important holiday in China, celebrated with family reunions and wishes for good luck in the coming year, the Year of the Horse. The two organizations constitute the national giant panda conservation and research center, a world-class platform inaugurated in 2023 for giant panda research cooperation and exchange.
Over the years, the organizations have been cooperating on giant panda protection and academic exchanges, achieving breakthroughs in major research areas such as the protection of panda populations and habitats.
In 2025, the two organizations successfully bred a total of 45 giant pandas.
China's iconic giant pandas, with their round faces, plump bodies and signature markings, are beloved worldwide as both cultural symbols and emblems of biodiversity.
