The promotional video for China Media Group (CMG)'s 2026 Spring Festival Gala took center stage at Chinese New Year celebrations in Canada, South Africa, Türkiye and Hungary, captivating audiences with a preview of a dazzling audiovisual spectacle.
On Thursday, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s Chinese New Year concert took place at the Orpheum Theatre in Canada, with the promotional video for CMG’s Spring Festival Gala showcased at the venue.
Before the concert began, the theatre hosted a series of cultural displays celebrating the Chinese New Year, including calligraphy of the character "Fu," symbolizing good fortune, as well as sugar painting and lion dances, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere.
"[I] watch the new year show on CCTV every year. I'm trying to learn some more Chinese so that I can understand more of it. So, I like to laugh along with the jokes, but I need to know what they mean," said an attendee.
On Monday, the promotional video for CMG’s Spring Festival Gala played on a loop at a Year of the Horse reception hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg, South Africa, emerging as a highlight of the evening.
Filled with traditional Chinese elements, the vibrant festivities gave South Africans from all walks of life a glimpse of the joy surrounding the upcoming Chinese New Year.
Guests said the Spring Festival activities and the CMG Spring Festival Gala promotional video offered insight into the richness of Chinese culture and how deeply the Chinese people value their culture and strive to share it with the world.
"Obviously it was sharing with us their rich culture that the Chinese people have, how important their culture is to them and how they are taking it seriously to share it with other cultures," said Morakane Mosupyoe, speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
The Chinese Embassy in Türkiye, the Consulate General in Istanbul, and the Izmir Chinese Association hosted a variety of Spring Festival celebration events.
From a Chinese culinary fair showcasing traditional cuisine to vibrant cultural performances, the events allowed Turkish attendees to experience the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year firsthand.
The CMG Spring Festival Gala promotional video was also screened during the celebrations, introducing local audiences to a cultural showcase centered on themes of reunion and blessings.
"It (the Spring Festival Gala) is a major interactive event that all Chinese people, whether at home or abroad, hold dear in their hearts," said Wei Xiaodong, China’s consul general in Istanbul.
A Spring Festival celebration took place in Budapest, Hungary, on Tuesday. Featuring a vibrant array of performances, the event treated audiences to an audiovisual feast that blended traditional Chinese charm with modern flair while showcasing the growing cultural ties between China and Hungary.
