Rime ice blanketed the renowned Huangshan Scenic Area in east China’s Anhui Province on Tuesday, the day of the Spring Festival. Paired with rolling seas of clouds, the spectacle transformed the mountains into a shimmering fairyland, attracting throngs of visitors eager to celebrate the holiday from the mountaintops.
In the early hours, triggered by low temperatures and ample moisture, shrubs and the region’s famed ancient pines were coated in glittering frost. From afar, mountain peaks appeared cloaked in crystal, with pine branches shimmering in silver, forming a vivid, layered landscape reminiscent of a traditional Chinese painting.
Driven by mountain winds, the ever-changing sea of clouds at times filled deep valleys and at others surged over ridgelines and summits. The rare pairing of rime ice and cloud seas prompted tourists and photography enthusiasts to capture the spectacle.
The scenic area is forecast to see mostly clear weather over the next week, providing favorable conditions for holiday sightseeing.
