U.S. dollar ticks down

The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.13 percent to 97.796 at 15:00 (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.178 dollars from 1.1763 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3491 dollars from 1.3451 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 155.02 Japanese yen, lower than 155.09 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.7754 Swiss francs from 0.7759 Swiss francs, and it lost to 1.3686 Canadian dollars from 1.3706 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar decreased to 9.054 Swedish Kronor from 9.0773 Swedish Kronor.

Oil prices settled mixed on Friday.

The West Texas Intermediate for March delivery dropped 4 cents, or 0.06 percent, to settle at 66.39 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for April delivery added 10 cents, or 0.14 percent, to settle at 71.76 U.S. dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
