Belgium and Canada have held a series of festive events to welcome the Year of the Horse, which began on Tuesday, featuring colorful Chinese cultural offerings and the illuminated Canadian National Tower.

The Spring Festival celebration held in the Belgian city of Dinant on Feb 15 gathered nearly 5,000 overseas Chinese and local residents, including political figures from both China and Belgium and local officials.

The celebration was held jointly by the Chinese Embassy in Belgium and the local Chinese communities.

It featured over 20 booths and 11 parade formations made up by over 100 artists, inviting visitors to enjoy offerings such as dragon dance, lion dance, face-changing performance, and Chinese food.

Meanwhile, On Feb 17, the Canadian National Tower (CN Tower) in Toronto was lit in red to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The Spring Festival is the most important holiday in China, and is traditionally celebrated with family reunion feasts, festive delicacies, and wishes of good luck for the year ahead.

Chinese New Year's Day marked the start of the Year of the Horse -- the seventh of the 12 zodiac animals in the Chinese zodiac.

The horse, a popular symbol in Chinese culture, represents not just swiftness but also perseverance and the indomitable will to overcome.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker wrote a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, demanding him refund the state 8.68 billion U.S. dollars after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the president's sweeping tariffs illegal.

In the letter, Pritzker said on behalf of the residents of Illinois, he demanded a refund of 1,700 U.S. dollars for every family in the state. There are 5,105,448 households in Illinois.

Pritzker posted the related bill on social media and said "cut the check."

In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court of the United States said that the tariff policies under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) are unconstitutional, officially striking down the global tariffs Trump has introduced since April 2025.

The justices ruled that the president did not have the authority under IEEPA to impose import tariffs on goods from nearly all the U.S. trading partners.
