The escalation of tensions in the Middle East serves no one's interest, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said in Beijing on Tuesday.

Mao made the statement at a press briefing in response to a media query on the U.S.-Iran situation.

"China is closely following the relevant developments and hopes that all parties will exercise restraint and resolve differences through dialogue. The escalation of tensions in the Middle East is in no one's interest," Mao said.
