Taking German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's upcoming visit to China as an opportunity, China is willing to enhance mutual trust and deepen cooperation with Germany, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

Mao briefed the media on the arrangements for Merz's visit to China, which is scheduled from Feb 25 to 26.

"This visit is German Chancellor Merz's first trip to China since taking office. During the visit, President Xi Jinping will meet with Merz, and Premier Li Qiang will hold talks with him to exchange views on bilateral relations and issues of common concern," Mao said.

"China and Germany are all-round strategic partners for win-win cooperation. The two countries have close high-level exchanges and deepening practical cooperation. The mutually beneficial cooperation has delivered tangibly for the two peoples. China and Germany are the second and third largest economies in the world. The sound development of China-Germany relations is in the interest of the two countries and is what the world expects to see. Through the visit, China stands ready to work with Germany to enhance understanding and mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, uphold the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, achieve greater progress in bilateral relations, and contribute more to world peace and prosperity," said the spokeswoman.

China will continue to foster and strengthen the space computing industry, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Space-based computing power refers to deploying computational capabilities in space and using satellite networks to achieve seamless coverage. Compared to traditional land-based data centers, space computing boasts advantages such as real-time on-orbit processing, low-cost energy and wide-area coverage. "Computing satellites can achieve seamless coverage and process data directly on orbit through networks of laser communications. This compresses the data timeliness for scenarios like disaster warnings and resource monitoring from hours to seconds -- a capability land-based computing cannot match," said Xie Lina, deputy director of the Data Center Department, Cloud Computing and Big Data Institute, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

The ministry will support relevant departments in actively carrying out forward-looking research on space computing, gradually establish a standard system covering hardware, software, networking, security, and others, and promote the research and development in technologies and products involving satellite-based radiation-resistant chips and inter-satellite laser communication.
