The international edited version of the China Media Group (CMG) Spring Festival Gala was officially broadcast on TV Hamburg Direkt in Germany on Friday, which marks the first time the gala has been aired on a German television network.
The 45-minute edited show features selected music, dance, and acrobatic performances, blending traditional arts with modern stage presentations.
The festive program includes innovative content such as humanoid robots performing martial arts alongside human actors, showcasing the vitality of Chinese culture and technological development.
Jo Groebel, media director of TV Hamburg Direkt, said strengthening cultural exchanges is particularly important in the current international environment.
The successful broadcast of the edited Spring Festival Gala in Hamburg opened a new window for German audiences to understand Chinese Spring Festival culture, paving the way for continued cooperation between the two sides in the fields of media and humanities, he said.
"The Spring Festival Gala is one of the grandest celebratory events one can see on television. The gala celebrates one of the most important family festivals in Chinese culture. Therefore, we are truly honored to broadcast this spectacular Chinese event for the first time on a local television station in Hamburg," said Groebel.
Since its first broadcast in 1983, the CMG Spring Festival Gala, also known as "Chunwan", has been a cherished part of Chinese New Year celebrations in hundreds of millions of Chinese homes.
The hours-long audio-visual feast was originally aired in China on February 16 this year, ushering in the Year of the Horse.
"The most brilliant aspect of this gala is its skillful fusion of two elements. On the one hand, there are very traditional elements. We witnessed dance and group performances of the highest level. Simultaneously, it is perfectly combined with innovation. The martial arts performance by humanoid robots has amazed almost the entire world. This fully demonstrates how the integration of innovation and tradition can drive cultural progress," said Groebel.
