China's top political advisory body will continue the effective democratic supervision practices to contribute to the successful implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), a spokesman said on Tuesday ahead of the country's Two Sessions.
The two sessions are the annual meetings of China's top legislature, the National People's Congress (NPC), and the top political advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Both bodies serve a five-year term and hold a plenary session each year, generally in March.
The fourth session of the 14th NPC and the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC will kick off on Thursday and Wednesday, respectively.
"Over the past five years, the 10 special committees of the CPPCC National Committee each selected important issues in the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and carried out consistent five-year-long special democratic oversight that spanned two terms of the National Committee. A total of 779 Committee members participated in these 10 special oversight programs, putting forward 323 oversight opinions that helped advance the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan," said Liu Jieyi, spokesman for the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, at a press briefing.
"Going forward, the CPPCC National Committee will continue effective democratic oversight practices from the 14th Five-Plan period and carry out in-depth consultative oversight by focusing on major topics in implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan, so as to contribute wisdom and strength to ensure the Communist Party of China Central Committee decisions take root and deliver results," he said.
