The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' attempt to rely on external forces to split the country is doomed to fail, said Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, on Wednesday.
Zhu made the statement at a press conference in response to a media inquiry regarding the DPP authorities' reaction to Taiwan-related comments made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during her visit to the United States.
"There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China. This is the true status quo across the Taiwan Strait. Currently, the biggest threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait is that the Lai Ching-te authorities have stubbornly clung to the separatist position for Taiwan's secession and have colluded with external forces to make continued separatist provocations. We firmly oppose relevant countries making unwarranted comments on the Taiwan question, which interfered in China's internal affairs. Any attempt by the DPP authorities to rely on external forces to split the country is doomed to fail," said Zhu.
