China will unswervingly strive for high-level sci-tech progress and drive global common development through the sharing of inclusive technology, the foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Thursday at a press briefing.
Mao made the statements when commenting on the "National Innovation Index Report", released at the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum (ZGC Forum) Annual Conference in March, which noted that China's national innovation index ranking has risen to 9th in the world, marking the fastest progress in the past decade.
"The Chinese government has always placed sci-tech innovation at the core of the country's overall development. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), China achieved a series of landmark original results in fields such as new energy vehicles, artificial intelligence, big data models, quantum mechanics, and biology, which have powerfully promoted high-quality development and made China an important pole of global innovation," she said.
Mao said China attaches great importance to international cooperation and sharing in sci-tech development, and will continue to do so in the future.
"China's sci-tech innovation adheres to openness and cooperation. Last week, China announced that it would openly share ten major scientific research infrastructure projects, including the FAST telescope and the deep-sea manned submersible Fendouzhe (Striver), with other countries, transforming the independently developed national strategic pillars into public goods that benefit the world. The moves shows that the true value of sci-tech innovation lies not in monopolistic advantages, but in enabling more people to benefit from the convenience brought by technological progress," she said.
"Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), China will unswervingly promote high-level sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening, lead the development of new-quality productive forces with sci-tech innovation, strengthen original innovation, accelerate industrial transformation, actively promote open cooperation, and promote global common development through shared technology for all," said the spokeswoman.
