Both Pakistan and Afghanistan value and welcome China's mediation efforts and are willing to sit down for negotiations, which is a positive development, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning on Friday.

Mao was responding to a media inquiry over the talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in China, as Beijing is seeking to push for easing the tension between the two neighboring Islamic countries.

"ce the recent escalation of the conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, China has been mediating and facilitating talks in its own way. China has maintained close communication with both sides through multiple channels and at various levels, creating conditions and providing a platform for dialogue. Both Pakistan and Afghanistan value and welcome China’s mediation and are willing to sit down for negotiations again, which is a positive development. The negotiation process is progressing steadily and smoothly. The three parties have reached consensus and made arrangements on the specific operational modes, including news reporting. If there is any further information, we will release it in due course," said Mao.
