Chinese firefighters have contained a fire that spread from Mongolia to the neighboring prairie in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as of 15:00 on Sunday.
More than 150 firefighters with 183 backpack wind-powered fire extinguishers were dispatched to battle the blaze that started in Mongolia and spread to the prairie in East Ujimqin Banner of Xilingol League Sunday morning.
Remote sensing data and frontline reports indicated that winds from the north, with an average speed of 12 meters per second, caused the fire to spread rapidly into China, creating an intermittent fire line approximately 1.1 kilometers long.
In response, the local fire department activated a contingency plan immediately to deploy firefighters to the scene.
The current intermittent fire lines in Mongolia, coupled with winds of force 6 to 7, continue to pose a threat to China's border area.
