A Chinese representative at the recently held 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva has called on all parties to work together to reform and improve global human rights governance, in a bid to further advance the sound development of global human rights.

Jia Guide, China's permanent representative to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, noted that China is ready to work with all nations to promote the sound development of the international human rights cause and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity.

At a general debate on human rights situations during the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, China urged all parties to take the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Human Rights Council as an opportunity to revisit the original aspiration of promoting and protecting human rights, and to take concrete actions to advance the human rights cause.

China launched a series of initiatives and events throughout the session to advance the improvement of global human rights governance.

China's permanent mission to the UN office in Geneva also hosted a dialogue on "Accessibility for All" to promote the implementation of the first-ever UN resolution on accessibility, which was initiated by China, as part of broader efforts to improve global human rights governance. On behalf of 63 countries, China delivered a joint statement elaborating on the rich human rights implications of the Global Governance Initiative, calling on all parties to work together to build a fair, just and win-win global human rights governance system.

In addition, a Chinese human right organization held an event on eliminating inequality and realizing right to development, on the sidelines of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, where Chinese and international participants exchanged views on promoting fairer and more inclusive development and advancing the realization of the right to development.

The Chinese NGO Network for International Exchanges, in cooperation with China's permanent mission to the UN office in Geneva, organized another side event marking the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development. At the event, participants called for greater attention to the right to development and for inclusive development that benefits all.

China's Shenzhou-23 crewed spaceship blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the country's northwest on Sunday, sending three astronauts to its orbiting space station.

The spaceship, atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, lifted off from the launch site at 23:08 Beijing Time (15:08 GMT).

The crew members consist of mission commander Zhu Yangzhu, and fellow astronauts Zhang Zhiyuan and Lai Ka-ying, who is also the first astronaut from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

In another notable first, one of the crew members is set to undertake a year-long stay aboard the space station, double the usual duration of previous Shenzhou missions.

After entering orbit, the Shenzhou-23 spaceship will perform a fast automated rendezvous and docking with the radial port of the space station core module Tianhe, forming a combination of three modules and three spacecraft.

Shenzhou-23 marks the 40th flight of China's manned spaceflight program and the seventh manned flight mission since the Tiangong space station entered its application and development phase in late 2022.
