Gui'an New Area, China's first comprehensive pilot zone for big data in southwestern province of Guizhou, has now turned into one of China's primary suppliers of computing power with its lower electricity cost and sustained supply.
It now has 27 large data centers. Many companies here just transformed their business a few months ago to catch the mania of AI agent. One of them is ChinaDataPay.com, a firm used to provide data products but now offers token services.
In early January, the company's daily token calls were less than 3 billion, but in April this figure has surged to nearly 12 billion. Meanwhile, the number of orders has increased from fewer than 70,000 to more than 280,000.
"We moved from Shanghai to Gui'an, because we can fully enjoy the benefits brought by Gui'an's cluster of data centers. For now, we need a large amount of computing power to produce tokens. Meanwhile, the cost-effectiveness of computing power in Gui'an leads the pack nationwide. As a result, the tokens we produce are highly competitive in the overall market," said Tang Hanlin, president of ChinaDataPay.com.
Within Gui'an's data center cluster, 21 large data centers are now under construction. After being put into operation, they will be able to train 100 large-scale models simultaneously, each with a parameter size of 100 billion, on a daily basis.
"Now, this part of land where I'm pointing at is the site for the fourth phase of our intelligent computing center. It is in high demand as most part of it has already been taken," said Li Jinhui, senior intelligent computing engineer of China Mobile Guizhou Branch.
At the dispatch center of China Southern Power Grid Guizhou Branch, a special digital map shows over 50 clean energy power plant distributed within a 200-kilometer radius around Gui'an data center cluster. They have been sending power to these data centers constantly.
Electricity consumption of different areas were also shown on the screen. In general, electricity consumption curves show clear peaks and troughs following residential and industrial usage -- high during the day and low at night. Only in Gui'an New Area, the curve is almost a straight line.
"We coordinate and optimize dispatching of multiple energy sources, including hydropower, thermal power, wind power, solar power and energy storage. With such measures, we are able to make long-term arrangement to cope with the fluctuation of electricity consumption," said Huang Xiaoxu, general manager of China Southern Power Grid Guizhou Branch's system operations department.
