The 139th edition of the China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, is set to open on Wednesday in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, with all preparations complete as of Tuesday.

This edition of the world's largest biannual trade fair will feature three distinct phases, each focusing on different product categories themed on "advanced manufacturing", "quality home life" and "better life". It will run from April 15 to May 5.

The fair will cover 1.55 million square meters and feature 75,700 booths and more than 32,000 participating enterprises, with around 3,900 first-time exhibitors.

The number of exhibition zones will increase to 179, including nine new sections covering smart wearables, display technologies, among others.

Established in 1957, the Canton Fair is held twice a year in Guangzhou. It is the longest-running of several comprehensive international trade events in China, and has been hailed as the barometer of China's foreign trade.

To support this year’s edition, Guangzhou Customs has issued 11 specific measures designed to streamline exhibit clearance, strengthen on-site supervision, and enhance the overall experience for participating enterprises.

The sixth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) is holding a series of global product debuts, Asia-Pacific premieres, and China firsts, in total releasing more than 200 new products -- double the number from last year.

Since opening on Monday in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, the expo has been serving a major platform for global brands to debut new offerings.

At a national pavilion event on Tuesday morning, delegations from Canada, Switzerland and Italy highlighted a range of newly launched products, drawing significant attention from attendees.

"China is a very important market for Swiss companies. We now have more than 1,000 companies who are present in the Chinese market. And they will continue to develop the Chinese market for the good of Swiss citizens and for the good of Chinese citizens, too," said Joel Saurina, Counselor of Embassy of Switzerland in China.

Beyond product launches, the expo also hosted matchmaking events focused on sectors such as smart home technology and wellness, helping connect global suppliers with potential buyers.
