Trendy new arrivals equipped with smart technologies have taken center stage at the on-going Sixth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE).

The expo, running from Monday to Saturday in Haikou, capital of south China's Hainan Province, has attracted more than 3,400 brands from over 60 countries and regions under the theme the theme of "Opening Up Drives Global Consumption, Innovation Empowers A Better Life."

More than 200 new products are expected to make their debut, double last year's number and spanning fields including healthcare, jewelry and digital technology. As China's first national-level exhibition centered on consumer goods, the CICPE is not only a window into new consumption trends, but also a gateway to the vast opportunities in China's large market.

At this year's event, products with smart technologies lead the trend to future.

Take the smart AI glasses launched by Rokid as an example. The device can serve as a personal "translator", connecting users to the whole world.

"Our latest third-gen AI glasses don't just work as a teleprompter for speeches. They also handle navigation, payments, and real-time translation. We're talking 89 languages. Plus, we just rolled out a new agent store with features like checking train tickets, helping your kid with homework, tons of stuff," said Zhao Anxin, sales of Rokid.

Smart tech not only makes people's daily communication and shopping easier, but also improves their sleep quality.

As a regular exhibitor that has participated in the CICPE for six consecutive years, the Canadian brand AirNutri launches its "micro-ecosystem non-drug sleep solution" for the first time at this year's Expo, bringing tech-powered sleep aid to more families.

"Basically, we target the gut microbiome by adding specific probiotic strains and our custom base formula that help with sleep and stress relief. These strains are designed to settle and multiply in the gut, creating a kind of mild inhibitory effect that helps restore balance. That balance, in turn, supports brain neurotransmitters to ease stress and help you get back to your natural sleep rhythm. So you can finally sleep the way your body was meant to," said Li Jingming, CEO of AirNutri Solution Inc. China.

The sixth CICPE is more than a launchpad for global products and technologies. It signals the rapid evolution of smart consumption in China and beyond.

The 2026 Beijing Book Fair opened on Saturday simultaneously at four majors parks across the city, set to offer a month-long cultural feast for visitors.

On Saturday morning, the Chaoyang Park in downtown Beijing was bustling with enthusiastic book lovers eager to read and buy books.

"I love to read books about history. This is the latest book of Chinese novelist Ma Boyong and it was sold at 35 percent off. I think it is a good deal," said a resident surnamed Huang.

Running until May 17, the book fair sees participation by more than 2,000 bookstores across the city, with the event's four venues at the Chaoyang Park in the east, the Shougang Park in the west, the Nanyuan Forest Wetland Park in the south, and the Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park in the north covering a total area of approximately 16,000 square meters, setting a new record for scale. Over 70 related events will be held in residential communities, commercial districts and schools.

"We have set up centralized exhibition areas in parks located in the east, south, west and north of the city, in striving to expand the coverage of the book fair," said Li Kun, an official from the publicity department of Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China.

To boost spending, Beijing plans to distribute a total of 6 million yuan (around 880,056 U.S. dollars) in book vouchers at the event. Meanwhile, visitors who attended the ongoing 16th Beijing International Film Festival screenings can receive book vouchers at book fair by presenting their film ticket stubs.
