Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, pledged to promote high-quality comprehensive strategic cooperation with Vietnam when holding talks with To Lam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and Vietnamese president, in Beijing on Wednesday.
Lam is on a state visit to China from Tuesday to Friday.
China is the first country Lam visits following his election as Vietnamese president on April 7.
"Your visit to China at the earliest opportunity after being elected president of Vietnam demonstrates the great importance you have attached to the development of China-Vietnam relations," said Xi during the talks.
"No matter how the international landscape evolves, China will always regard Vietnam as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy, stand ready to work with Vietnam to remain steadfast in our original commitment, carry forward friendship, strengthen unity and cooperation, and support each other for high-quality advancement of the comprehensive strategic cooperation and for building a higher-level China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance," he said.
Lam expressed warm congratulations to China for its successes.
"We warmly congratulate the Communist Party of China, the Chinese government and the Chinese people on the successful fulfillment of the 14th Five-Year Plan and for making many achievements of epoch-making significance under the leadership with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping at its core. I also believe that China will smoothly carry out its 15th Five-Year Plan, while serving as a stable pillar and primary driving force for global growth and development," said Lam.
