Japan should act prudently in military and security fields, rather than flexing military strength everywhere while undermining regional stability, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday.
Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces destroyer Ikazuchi on Friday transited the Taiwan Strait en route to the Philippines to take part in the annual Balikatan military exercises of the U.S. and the Philippines.
"During World War II, Japan invaded and colonized Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, bearing grave historical responsibilities. Japan should seriously reflect on its history of aggression, and act prudently in military and security fields, rather than flexing military strength everywhere while undermining regional stability," said Guo Jiakun, the spokesman, in commenting on the incident at a press conference in Beijing.
